NEET UG 2023 Syllabus and Exam Pattern

NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate) is a national-level medical entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate medical courses (MBBS/BDS) in various government and private medical colleges in India. This year, the exam will be conducted on 7th May, 2023 and to prepare for the same, one needs to be aware about the exam pattern and the syllabus covered in the examination.

Exam Pattern of NEET UG 2023

Exam Mode: The exam is conducted in offline mode, i.e., Pen and Paper-based Test (PBT). 

Duration: The duration of the exam is 3 hours and 20 minutes.

Language: The question paper is available in 13 languages including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

Sections: The question paper consists of 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) out of which one needs to attempt only 180 questions from three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology). Each section consists of 50 questions.

Marking Scheme: Each correct answer is awarded 4 marks, and 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer. No marks are deducted for unanswered questions.

Total Marks: The maximum marks that can be obtained are 720.

Physics: Physical World and Measurement, Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Work, Energy and Power, Motion of System of Particles and Rigid Body, Gravitation, Properties of Bulk Matter, Thermodynamics, Behavior of Perfect Gas and Kinetic Theory, Oscillations and Waves, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism, Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Currents, Electromagnetic Waves, Optics, Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation, Atoms and Nuclei, Electronic Devices.
  2. Chemistry: Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry, Structure of Atom, Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, States of Matter: Gases and Liquids, Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Redox Reactions, Hydrogen, s-Block Elements (Alkali and Alkaline Earth Metals), Some p-Block Elements, Organic Chemistry-Some Basic Principles and Techniques, Hydrocarbons, Environmental Chemistry, Solid State, Solutions, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Surface Chemistry, General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Elements, p-Block Elements, d and f Block Elements, Coordination Compounds, Haloalkanes and Haloarenes, Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers, Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids, Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen, Biomolecules, Polymers, Chemistry in Everyday Life.
  3. Biology: Diversity in Living World, Structural Organization in Animals and Plants, Cell Structure and Function, Plant Physiology, Human Physiology, Reproduction, Genetics and Evolution, Biology and Human Welfare, Biotechnology and Its Applications, Ecology and Environment.
